The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) states that “social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.” (CASEL, 2017) “Depression, anxiety, and substance abuse, as well as other social problems, are on the rise. Our external world is unpredictable and it is imperative that we equip children with the ability to manage their internal worlds from a quiet, connected, and grounded place.” (Momentous Institute) This workshop will focus on activities adults learn first for themselves and then teach the children, youth, and families they serve to find their own grounded place.
