In this workshop participants will discuss the definitions of Culture, Cultural Competence, Cultural Humility, and Cultural Sensitivity as they pertain to Prevention Professionals, Clinical staff, Administrators, and Directors. Participants will look deeper at the differences and similarities of cultures each are a part of and complete a Cultural Competence Self-Assessment. Participants will look specifically at how to improve an organization’s cultural competence utilizing SAMHSA’s Tip 59, CAPT’s Increasing Cultural Competence to Reduce Behavioral Health Disparities, and the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in Health and Health Care. The workshop will end with a discussion on each individual’s top three character qualities and how these qualities can bring about “unconditional acceptance, respect, and positive regard” for ourselves, co-workers, and clients alike.
